I was driving down Harbor Boulevard in beautiful downtown Fullerton CA recently and I was struck by the thought that this is a great country and we should have a more fair system so everyone could share in it's wealth. My simple formula is this, no one should reasonably earn more than $400,000 (that is the President's salary, and he lives on that quite nicely.) So, we simply set up a tax code that will keep the same levels of taxation up to the $400,000 limit, and any adjusted gross income over $400,000 would be taxed at a 100% rate.
No one really needs more than $400,000 to live a comfortable life in this country do they? After all, they should be able to purchase a nice home, car, and maybe even a boat or similar item for pleasure. We should also consider all the good we can do by distributing the extra monies in a more fair, equitable fashion, so that we could supplement everyone's income, possibly up to the $200,000 to $300,000 level. At that point I am sure we would have no crime, everyone would have full healthcare, excellent schools and general utopia. I am sure that everyone in our society would be more productive knowing that we are all sharing in the wealth more equally.
I know there will be skeptics out there, so maybe instead of using a 100% rate we could settle for 50%…oh, we are already there? Why isn't it working?
